Short Course: Practicing Risk Management
An art form with a scientific backbone
Risk Management is a proactive and systematic approach for improving risk and decision making in the workplace. It creates a structure for individual mine operators to develop solutions to the risks faced at their individual mine location based upon the surrounding environment, local conditions, actual equipment and personnel involved.
Effective risk managers organize information about an unwanted event (such as an accident, injury or, illness) so that those who make decisions can make more informed choices. These risk management principles can be utilized at all levels of the management structure. Risk management tools help the mine operators focus attention and resources on those most significant risks.
These practices simply allow for managers and supervisors of all levels to better anticipate and mitigate risk.
